Virden Schools Foundation 2002-2010

The Virden Schools Foundation, formed as a committee of the Virden School Board, has since 2004 awarded scholarships to 22 graduates totaling $6,500. It has made grants of $500 each to the Virden Elementary School Media Center and to the Virden MS/HS Media Center. It has further made other grants to classrooms and programs of the Virden School District.

The current board of directors is: President George Rishel, Vice President Kim Moore, Treasurer Deborah Ringer, Mark Reichert, Bob Moore, and Mary Alice McNaught. Past directors include Fred Reichert and the Rev. Russ McInnis.

After voters in the Virden and Girard school districts chose to consolidate the two districts, the board of the Virden Schools Foundation reached out to interested residents of the Girard district. The result is the newly formed North Mac Public Schools Foundation.

The Virden Schools Foundation will soon close its books and pass the baton to the North Mac Public Schools Foundation (NMPSF). The board thanks the residents of the Virden School District for their past support of the foundation and encourages you to continue to support the new North Mac Public Schools Foundation.

North Mac Public Schools Foundation, Est. 2009

The North Mac Public Schools Foundation held its organizational meeting on November 9, 2009. It incorporated as an Illinois not-for-profit corporation on November 24, 2009. It has further registered with the Illinois Attorney General as a charitable organization and applied to the IRS for recognition as a tax exempt/tax deductible 501(c)(3) organization.

The current (2010-2011) board and officers of the North Mac Public Schools Foundation are: President Mark Reichert, Vice President Juanita Rule, Secretary-Treasurer George Rishel, Dawn Cherry, Kathy Hannah, Jim Hunt, Barb Jessen, Mary Alice McNaught, Bob Moore, Kim Moore, and Michelle Weller. Charles Handy, a member of the North Mac School Board, is an ex officio member of the NMPSF board.

The purpose of the Foundation as a charitable and educational organization is to raise funds and accept donations, gifts, and bequests to support the North Mac School District—its students, teachers, programs, and activities. This support will generally include: scholarships for graduates; classroom grants for materials, supplies, and textbooks; media center grants; continuing education grants for teachers; grants for classroom equipment; and other types of assistance.

To enable it to meet these goals, the Foundation seeks donations from individuals, businesses, and organizations in the local communities served by the North Mac School District and from alumni of the Girard and Virden schools. The Foundation may seek grants from corporations and foundations. The Foundation accepts memorial donations in someone’s memory. It also accepts gifts of income-producing property such as publicly traded securities, life insurance, and real estate. Anyone considering a gift of property should have his or her financial advisor consult with the Foundation to discuss the gift and its terms. The Foundation also accepts non-cash gifts of items for use by the school district, provided that the need and use of the item is determined before the gift is made.

The Foundation is currently soliciting donations—in any amount—from individuals in the Girard, Virden, Thayer, Nilwood, Lowder, and Sunset Lake communities. To donate to the Foundation, make your check payable to the North Mac Public Schools Foundation or "NMPSF." Mail it to NMPSF, P.O. Box 117, Virden, IL 62690 or give it to any member of the board of directors.

Please print out a copy of the Donor Information Form and return it with your donation.

The students of the North Mac School District will appreciate your generosity.

Contributions are tax deductible!

Contributions to the Foundation will help the district enhance it's current educational program and provide scholarships for graduating seniors.
